A George III mahogany bergere
possibly by Francois HerveCirca 1790, with patera carved angles, the fluted arm supports above fluted and stiff-leaf clasped baluster shaped terminals, on fluted tapering legs, re-railed and the seat later sprung, 76cm wide.

A similar pair of bergeres made by Francois Herve (d. 1796), albeit painted and parcel gilt examples, sold Christie's, London, 8 July 2010, The Spencer House Sale, lot 1051. These elegant comparables originally formed part of a suite and were supplied by Holland and Daguerre to George John, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758-1834) for Althorp.
