注脚
ProvenanceThe underside of the offered lot is inscribed in paint: '2887' and also bears a paper label printed with the following: 'PHILLIPS OF HITCHIN (ANTIQUES) LTD.' so clearly this was formerly an item sold by Phillips of Hitchin. The present table relates to a design for a Pembroke which appears in the third edition of Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, No. LIII, 1762. Both models have square tapering legs with very similar elongated 'gothick' piercings to each surface of the legs, along with comparable trefoil and quatrefoil pierced X-stretchers.
