A VERY LARGE BUDDHIST LION BRONZE, MING
China, 17th century. Heavily cast bronze of a roaring Buddhist lion in a striding posture, the sharp fangs well visible inside the open jaw, with elaborately formed curly fur, eyebrows and bushy tail, the paws with massive, protuberating claws.
Provenance: From a private collection of bronzes and sculptures. By repute acquired at auction during the 1970s and thence by descent in the same family.
Condition: Excellent condition with old wear and some minor casting flaws. Very few tiny nicks here and there.

Note the superb almost black patina with its lustrous shine and the removable tail.
