A WOODEN RABBIT BOX, QING DYNASTY
China, 19th century. The Rabbit is the fourth of the 12-year cycle of animals appearing in the Chinese zodiac. The Year of the Rabbit is associated with the Earthly Branch symbol. The box is carved from two single pieces of hardwood and has neatly incised details as well as deep natural patina.
Provenance: The Schulmann Collection, Paris, France. Acquired ca. 1970. Josette and Théo Schulmann were passionate dealers of Asian Art and have donated several important works to the Cernuschi Museum.
Condition: Fine condition with extensive wear and traces of use, minor dents and losses, old repair to one foot.

中國,十九世紀。兔子是生肖中的第四位,盒子由兩塊單獨的硬木雕刻而成,細節生動,包漿自然。
