A BURLWOOD CARVING OF A LUOHAN
China, 17th - 18th century. Carved in a standing position, using the natural shape of the gnarled wood to depict arms and feet, the head carved separately. Note the large fish jumping down from the luohan’s proper right shoulder.
Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Fine golden-brown patina. Some wear, losses, age cracks and old fillings. Few tiny wormholes.
