AN AMBER CARVING OF A RAM AND CUB, QING
China, 18th-19th century. Finely carved as a ram with two ribbed horns and short tail, its head turned backwards as a cub attempts to crawl up its back, with fine hair markings, the translucent amber of rich color.
Provenance: Collection of the late Gerard Arnhold (1918-2010), philanthropist, collector and supporter of the Oriental Museum Durham for many years.
Condition: Superb condition with only few microscopic fleabites to exposed areas.

清代琥珀雕公羊小羊

來源:已故Gerard Arnhold(1918-2010)收藏;Gerard Arnhold曾是慈善家、Durham東方博物館多年的收藏家和支持者,於1918年出生於德國德累斯頓的一個著名的猶太慈善家庭。 1936年,當納粹上台奪取家族資產時,Arnhold家族被迫逃往英國。Gerard曾在劍橋大學學習,但於1940年在英國軍隊服役,從事情報工作,並以極大的風險回到德國。 1953年,他搬到了巴西,成立了一家成功的技術公司,並在那裡經營了50年。
