Description:
A THREE-COLOR OVERLAY GLASS WATER POT, QING
China, 18th-19th century. The somewhat compressed body is decorated with lotus, peonies and butterflies carved through the translucent ruby-red, pale green and sapphire-blue overlay to the opaque white body which has swirls of mauve and pale green color issuing from the edge of the countersunk base.
Provenance: The Shakris collection, San Francisco, USA. Hong Kong private collection, acquired from the above. Wooley and Wallis Auctions, May 22nd, 2007, lot 159 (sold for 2.600 pounds excluding buyer’s premium). Private collection, acquired from the above. Old Shakris Collection label to base (faded).
Condition: Minor losses here and there. Few stress lines, emerging from firing imperfections.
