A LARGE FAMILLE VERTE DISH, KANGXI MARK AND PERIOD
China, 1662-1722. The porcelain painted in vivid enamels with a scene from Act III of The Romance of the Western Chamber depicting Cui Yingying and her attendant Hongniang in the garden by a rockwork altar, praying for the return of Zhang Sheng, seen climbing over the garden wall.
Provenance: Old English private collection.
Condition: Old split in two halves and put back together (no significant losses, replacements or spraying). The plate has therefore retained a nice, lasting sound of 3-4 seconds. Old wear and surface scratches. Fritting with old fillings.

The recessed base with a Kangxi six-character mark painted in cobalt blue under the glaze within a double circle and of the period.
