A CHINESE HAND PAINTED WHITE MARBLE AND CARVED WOOD TABLE SCREEN, REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912-1949), the polychrome painted rectangular plaque enclosed in original Huanghuali frame, centering a nicely detailed scene of a recumbent sage elder holding his fan, resting on the ground beside his straw hat covering two scrolls and a rootwood walking stick, opposite a melon filled circular box at his feet, while an attendant prepares tea above a circular container, before a large uncovered lobed jar enclosing a ladle handle, reversing to a lone figure standing on a waterside cliff beneath the branches of ancient trees, while gazing at a distant mountainous waterfall, the plaque height: 7 1/2", width: 5"; including the later stand, height: 11 1/2", width: 5 3/4", depth: 5 3/4". Condition: The painted plaque is in good condition for items of this age use and materials including but not limited to; light surface buildup throughout, some small areas of paint loss, some very faint fading of attendant's face and area above sage's head. Old Huanghuali frame has some tiny marks and expected surface buildup. The later stand has a crackled and dried paint puddle residue throughout as well as loose bracket supports.
