A PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT YELLOW GROUND ENAMELED COPPER PLATES, QING DYNASTY (1644-1912), 18TH CENTURY, attributed to the Qianlong (1736-1795) period, the pair with delicately shaded blue ruyi forms, multi color lotus, ruffled pink chrysanthemums, centering an unfurling multi color peony flower blossom, nestled among profuse scrolling tendrils within copper gilt stippled dots, encircled by a white to dark blue shaded spearhead repeating motif within a pale teal and blue ring border, centering a single copper gilt band, verso a pink ground enamel, and raised on a circular foot. Diameter: 5 3/4". Note: The borders pictured in the book are identical to the enamel work in the present pair of plates, suggesting these plates are period and of the make of enamel artisans producing quality work in the late 18th century. Reference: Howard, David Sanctuary, "Chinese Armorial Porcelain," Faber and Faber Ltd., London, University Oxford Press, 1974, p. 409-531. Condition: One plate has some losses, and a slight bend, apparent damage to front and back, surface soil and encrustation, some darkened patina near edges, but overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age.
