Description: A MONGOLIAN GILT REPOUSSE PANEL DEPICTING DORJE LEGPA CIRCA 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The protective deity Dorje Legpa is depicted in this gilt metal repousse panel surrounded by clouds of smoke emitted from his fiery bellows, above his vehicle, the goat with entwined horns symbolising the binding together of relative and absolute truths, Samsara and Nirvana. The panel is bordered on either side by human heads depicted in various states of decay. Traces of pigment remain on most of the heads. Together with a fitted perspex stand.
