LOT NOTES Born in Poland to a Jewish family, Emile Eisman-Semenowsky later emigrated to Paris, where he lived and worked from the 1880s onwards. At the beginning of his stay in Paris, he wprked as the assistant of the Belgian artist Jan van Beers. Eisman-Semenowsky was celebrated for his portraits of women, which were fervently collected by the Parisian bourgeoisie.
