Japan. 19th c. Koma Kansai. Lacquered dark wood with hira- and takamaki-e in gold. On the front a standing male peacock at a small pine tree, on the back a female peacock. Both have their heads turned towards each other and look in the direction of the other. Openable from the side, inside with five small drawers. Height 8.1cm. Sign.: Kansai. Netsuke: Oni at setsubun.
