East Asia, China, ca. early to mid 20th century (pre-WWII) CE. A group of 68 ornately carved jadeite buttons. Most are floral, with many being lotus leaves; others include animals, notably a frog and a Fu dog, seated human figures, abstract geometric forms, and shells. Most are made from a bright, deep green jade with creamy white swirls, with a few creamier or greyer in color. All are pierced for suspension.
