Ancient Seas, ca. 2 million years ago. A great example of a fossilized Megalodon tooth with a deep black center color and grey-brown hues along the edges. While many of the original serrations are worn, their locations are still visible based on the alternating grey and black coloration. Several vertical striations along the upper enamel are another result of the fossilization process, and the root exhibits a dark color with age-commensurate fissures. The teeth of the Megalodon are all that remain of these ancient creatures whose skeletal structures - like those of all sharks - were made of cartilage and therefore did not fossilize.
