Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hollow-built and highly burnished redware pottery figure of a seated female. The nude woman features ample thighs and conical feet, a broad abdomen, and sinuous arms bent behind her lower back. Her enlarged head exhibits impressed eyes, a tab-shaped nose, thin lips, and multiple earrings on each ear, all beneath a deeply incised coiffure. Faint traces of negative resist spot motifs are visible on one shoulder and suggest this figure was at one time adorned with intricate embellishments.
