Description
A DING WARE EWER, NORTHERN SONG
China, 12th-13th century. The conical body rising from a spreading foot to a waisted neck with lipped flaring rim, set with a neatly incised strap handle opposite an elongated tapering spout, covered overall in an ivory-cream glaze pooling to characteristic teardrops.
Condition: Remarkably good condition, especially considering the age of this ewer. Extensive crackling to glaze, possibly with some glaze lines originated after the firing. Old wear and manufacturing flaws.
