A TURQUOISE CARVING OF CELESTIAL DEITIES, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC
China, late 19th – early 20th century. Carved from a single piece, showing deities wearing long, flowing robes with bands, one holding a Buddha’s hand citron, surrounded by attendants holding peaches, a deer, several cranes, and rocks, clouds and architectural elements behind them.
Condition: Some losses, glued to base, good patina.
Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
