A ROOTWOOD SCULPTURE OF BUDAI, QING
China, 1644-1912. The Laughing Buddha is standing on his famous bag, from which a mongoose is looking up towards him. Budai has a characteristically cheerful expression which is mimicked by his boy servant holding a bat in his hands. Two more bats are climbing on Budai’s back.
Condition: Wear, age cracks, minor losses.
