Description
A GILT COPPER-ALLOY BUDDHA, QING
China, 18th-19th century. The majestic deity is well cast seated in dhyanasana with one hand in bhumisparsa mudra, the other resting in his lap in the gesture of meditation, richly gilt overall.
Condition: Old wear and minor nicks here and there. Overall good condition. Bowl lost. Sealed, but the base plate likely a later replacement.
Provenance: From the collection of Alexander Popov in Novi Sad, Kingdom of Serbia, acquired between 1900-1920.

Wearing an intricately executed robe gathered in cascading folds at the shoulder and at his ankles, his rounded face with downcast eyes, bow-shaped mouth flanked by long pendulous ear lobes, his hair arranged in tight curls rising to a domed ushnisha.
