A LARGE CARVED WOOD FIGURE OF GUANYIN, MING
China, 1368-1644. The bodhisattva seated in padmasana on a double lotus base, one hand showing the shuni mudra, wearing long flowing robes, a bejeweled necklace and a high tiara.
Condition: Condition as seen with massive age crack, extensive weathering and losses, and calcification.
Provenance: The Reinhold Hofst?tter collection, Vienna, and thence by decent. Acquired in Austria before 1980, by repute from a Lady of Nobility.
