A LARGE CARVED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA, MING
China, 1368-1644. Seated in padmasana, one hand in vitarkamudra and the other holding an amrita vessel, wearing long robes falling into voluminous folds and opening at the chest, the face with a benevolent expression and downcast eyes, a gentle smile, long earlobes and tightly curled hair.
Condition: Old wear and abrasions, remnants of pigment and lacquer, losses and age cracks, old filling. Overall in well-presentable condition, with issues as expected on a wood statue of this age.
Provenance: From a private estate, by repute in the same family since the early 20th century.
