HERRING SENIOR, JOHN FREDERICK (1795 - 1865)In the stable. ?Oil on canvas. ?Signed lower right: J.F. Herring. ?40 x 40 cm. ? ?Provenance: Swiss private collection. ? ?John Frederick Herring Senior was one of the most successful English animal painters in the mid-19th century. In 1840 and 1841 he painted several paintings for the son of the French king Louis-Phillipe during a visit to Paris at the invitation of the Duc d′Orleans. In 1845 Herring created animal paintings fo the Duchess of Kent. Orders from the ruling Queen Victoria, who supported him until the end of his life, followed. His paintings were extremely popular, so Herring exhibited between 1818 and 1865 at the Royal Academy of Arts, the British Institution and the Society of British Artists, where he became vice president in 1842. Auftr?ge der herrschenden K?nigin Victoria, die ihn bis zu seinem Lebensende unterstützte, folgten. Seine Gem?lde waren überaus popul?r, so stellte Herring zwischen 1818 und 1865 an der Royal Academy of Arts, an der British Institution und an der Society of British Artists aus, wo er 1842 Vizepr?sident wurde.
