GAGLIARDINI, GUSTAVE (1846 - 1927)Beach scene. ?Oil on panel. ?Signed lower right: G. Gagliardini. ?16.5 x 27 cm. ? ?Provenance: Swiss private collection. ? ?The Frenchman Gustave Gagliardini, born 1846 in Mulhouse, France, was a well-known landscape and historical painter and a talented engraver. As a student of Claude Soulary he studied in St. Etienne and later under Leon Coginet at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. In his early career, Gagliardini devoted himself primarily to figural painting and created historical portraits and genre scenes, which he presented in regular exhibitions at the Paris Salon and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. From 1880 he replaced the historical motifs with landscape painting and mainly created paintings of places in France, especially Auvergne and Midi. After several prizes and awards he received in 1900 a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle. Als Schüler von Claude Soulary studierte er in St. Etienne und sp?ter unter Leon Coginet an der School of Fine Arts in Paris. In seiner frühen Schaffensperiode widmete sich Gagliardini vor allem der Figurenmalerei und fertigte prim?r historische Portraits und Genreszenen, die er in regelm?ssigen Ausstellungen am Pariser Salon und der Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool pr?sentierte. Ab 1880 gab er die historischen Motive zugunsten der Landschaftsmalerei auf und fertigte haupts?chlich Gem?lde von Orten in Frankreich, speziell von Auvergne und Midi.
