Unequal duel. ?Watercolour on paper. ?Signed and dated lower right: R. Pellegrini 79. ?21 x 26 cm. ? ?Provenance: Swiss private collection. ? ?The Italian landscape and genre painter Riccardo Pellegrini first attended courses at the Fine Art School of Milan and then continued his studies in Rome and Naples. As a passionate traveler he spent some time in the UK, France and Spain. He developed a penchant for rural areas and a fascination for the gypsy life. The experiences of his stays abroad became the main source of his inspiration and he created many landscape paintings and works with scenes of his journey. After returning to his home country, he worked as an illustrator for several renowned newspapers. Among others he made the drawings of Cervantes' Don Quixote and Alain-René Lesage's Gil Blas.
