Description TABLE à COMBINAISONS (TABLE à LA BOURGOGNE) Louis XV, France, ca. 1760. Signed by Denis Genty. Ma?tre from 1754 onwards. Tulipwood and purpleheart in veneer. The front-half of the top, hinged; the inside of the hinged part, lined with red, gold-impressed leather, serves as a writing surface. To the rear, a drawer with secret compartments. The rear-half of the top can be raised, and features 4 smaller and 2 larger drawers. Opulent bronzes and lateral handles. 70 x 55 x 41 cm. Provenance: - Christie's Paris, Auction 6.11.2014. - Private collection, Berne. The "table à la Bourgogne", or combination desk, may have been a creation by the famous Parisian cabinet maker Roger Vandercruse La Croix or his contemporary Jean Fran?ois Oeben, of whom a piece of furniture similar in form is in the Museum Nissim de Camondo, Paris. The Parisian ebenist Denis Genty, by whom the desk on offer is signed on the bottom of the frame, was an outstanding cabinet-maker and merchant. He sold his furniture to cabinet-maker colleagues and worked for them as well. Genty also maintained close business relations with Roger Vandercruse, who, as mentioned above, was possibly the inventor of this type of furniture. Rosenholz und Veilchenholz furniert und gefriest. Das geschweifte und gefriest furnierte Blatt mit Blumenzweigen in Stirnholz eingelegt und h?lftig aufklappbar. Die Klappe innen mit rotem, goldgepr?gtem Leder bezogen und aufgeklappt als Schreibfl?che dienend. Hinter dem Schreibfeld eine Lade mit geheimen F?chern. Die hintere H?lfte des Blattes auf Druck nach oben ausfahrbar und mit vier kleineren und zwei gr?sseren Schubladen ausgestattet. Reiche Kniebronzen, Zargenzierde und seitliche Tragegriffe. 70 x 55 x 41 cm. Provenienz: - Christie's Paris, Auktion 6.11.2014 - Berner Privatbesitz Die Table à la Bourgogne, oder Kombinationssekret?r, dürfte eine Sch?pfung des berühmten Pariser Kunstschreiners Roger Vandercruse La Croix gewesen sein oder seines Zeitgenossen Jean Fran?ois Oeben, von dem sich ein in der Form ?hnliches M?bel im Museum Nissim de Camondo Paris befindet. Der Pariser Ebenist Denis Genty, von dem unser Sekret?r an der Zargenunterseite signiert ist, war ein hervorragender Kunstschreiner und Kaufmann. Er gab seine M?bel an befreundete Kunstschreiner zum Verkauf ab und arbeitete so auch in deren Auftrag. Genty pflegte auch enge Gesch?ftsbeziehungen mit Roger Vandercruse, dem wie erw?hnt m?glichen Erfinder dieses M?beltypus. Das hier angebotene Schreibm?bel ist ein besonders feines und fürstliches Beispiel der Vorliebe des Rokoko. Mit seinen reizvollen Formen und versteckten Mechanismen waren solche M?bel weniger als Gebrauchsm?bel sondern eher als luxuri?se Kuriosit?ten gedacht, die man gerne vorführte.
