L: 69 1/4 in(176cm) W: 13 in(33cm) Pan Linggao (February 6, 1867-June 19, 1954), from Anxin, Hebei. In 1881, 15-year-old Pan Linggao was a talented candidate in the imperial examination. He was a middle-aged student in the 20th year of the Qing Emperor Guangxu (1894). After the success of the 1911 Revolution, Pan Linggao became the governor of Gansu Province. He later resigned and returned to his hometown in 1922 due to hating official corruption. He later moved to Tianjin and Peiping and enjoyed poetry and writing. During the Japanese and pseudo-reign, he was arrested and imprisoned for refusing to serve as the governor of a pseudo-Hebei province. In 1948, Pan Linggao wrote to Fu Zuoyi several times to persuade him to negotiate with the Communist Party of China. After 1949, he served as member of the Military Committee of the Central People's Government. He died of illness in Beijing in 1954
