In 1922, he learned painting from the Jinbei Tower School, and was good at painting horses. He is also good at flower and bird painting, calligraphy, engraving, and kite making. Before liberation, he had been selling paintings for a living. After liberation, he was an artist at Beijing Academy of Painting.
