Chinese Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong red monochrome plate. The Porcelain potted in shallow vessel form, with the broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with straight opening lip, raised with a round shallow draft. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in red monochrome design color. All masterfully covered in an even coat of a red oxblood glaze which terminates at the base to reveal the pure white under glaze. The Lang Yao hong and its red monochrome variations appear to have been attempts directed at recreating the lost formula of the famous Ming dynasty Xuande period (1426-35) monochrome red. The different outcomes are known under many different names depending on their characteristics. Qing dynasty thick and vitreous deep bright red glaze, often featuring crackle or thick drops around the foot, turning red due to its copper content when fired in a reducing atmosphere. While very successful in itself. an almost perfect version of the jihong was created as the Sacrificial red of the Qianlong period.
