722 gramsThis red and gold lacquered statue shows a scholar in a long robe. He is wearing a gown over the robe with a carved-in geometrical pattern, creating a delicate detail. The scholar is leaning slightly to the front as if bowing to somebody with dignity. His left arm is placed on his lap in the front of his body, while his right arm is on his back, holdinga flywhisk. At the bottom of the robe we can see his bare feet toes peeking out a bit. A big pearl necklace is adorning his breast over the gown and his ears are decoratedwith jewellery. The hair is arranged with a decorative clasp and pearls. The face has a benevolent and peaceful expression.Provenance: Collection Sharpes, Strasbourg , acquired January 2002 in Antibes ( France ) , original invoice available
