Ernest Dezentjé was born in a French origins’ family in Jatinegara, Jakarta, in 1885. A self-taught artist, he is considered a leading member of the early “Indonesian School” of painting. Member of the Bataviasche Kunstkring, he had numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Jakarta, becoming an Indonesian citizen after the World War II. The main subject of his paintings is the Indonesian landscape. He had also many disciples.
