Description Pre-Columbian, central Peru, Inca, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A wonderful and rare pair of miniature Incan kero (also qero, quero), each carved from a single piece of wood, with a gracefully flared and curved conical form. Each is decorated on its upper body with incised checkered motifs. Skillfully hand-carved (rather than made on a lathe) and incised, these vessels were most likely used for drinking chicha, fermented corn beer. Size of one (they are almost identical in size): 1.4" in diameter x 1.7" H (3.6 cm x 4.3 cm)
Provenance: ex-New York, New York, USA collection, ex-private West Virginia, USA collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
