A Chinese Yuan / Ming Dynasty Henan Glazed Stoneware Jar. This large stoneware jar was most likely made at one of the kilns in Henan province. It is of an unusual form and particularly "heavily-potted". It is coated in a thick dark-brown to black glaze, the colour of which varies depending on its thickness. The glaze stops just short of the flat base that remains unglazed. Height 33 cm (13 inches), diameter 28 cm (11 inches). Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 – 1368) or Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 – 1644).
Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
