A Rare Chinese Song Dynasty Dragon Jar with Stand & Cover. The jar, cover and bowl are all heavily-potted. In addition to the decorative grooves surrounding the body of the jar, a dragon chasing a pearl and "spurs" have been applied to the surface. The outer surface and inner mouth have been coated in a dark iron brown glaze, the colour of which varies according to its thickness. The wall of the stand, or bowl, has wide vertical cut-outs and a purpose-made circular hole to its base. Height 24 cm (9.5 inches). Song Dynasty (AD 960 – 1279).
