A pair of Chinese famille rose porcelain plates dating from the Daoguang period. The plates are quatrefoil-shaped. Each has a 6-character mark on the back, and the exterior is decorated with 4 bats. The inside farming scene is accompanied by 2 poems, each with 3 seals. Dimensions are: 1 inch tall X 7 inches wide, 2.5 cm tall X 17.8 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: A few minor areas of paint wear and a hairline crack to the plate depicting farmers in the field. Provenance: From the estate of Frederick C. McMillen. Mr. McMillen was sent to China by the US government after WWII to oversee rebuilding projects funded by UN grants.
