Kaoru Ueda (Japanese, b. 1928), Raw Eggoil on canvas, signed and dated 1977, gallery wrapped canvas. 21 x 18 in. Kaoru Ueda is a leading figure in the Japanese photorealistic painting movement. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1954. After first working in the abstract, he began painting hyper-realistic food paintings in the 1970s. He was awarded the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art prize in 1975 and his paintings are in numerous public and private collections in Japan and abroad.
