Description Wood carved Nepal , 16th century Dimensions: Height 92 cm by 20 cm by 8 cm Weight: 13586 grams Wood panel with two scenes. The lower shows a man lying on the ground possibly ill or in the state of dying and being held by another man kneeling above him. Above them we see a prostrate Nandi and Shiva standing on its back with the left foot crossed over the right shin. Shiva has four arms holding objects like the rosary and trident. Around his shoulders and hanging onto his knees is a necklace of skulls called mundamala. He is wearing an opulent crown and he has big eyes. This could also be a reference to his fierce manifestation Bhairava. Bundles of leaves form a canopy above him. The back of the carving is flat.
