Lee Harvey Oswald ALS to His Brother, “send me a football (they only have round ones here) … these Russians seem interested in learning how to play … together we’ll show them a little bit of american sport” Autograph Letter Signed “Your Brother / Lee,” 2 pp., 5.5” x 8”, separate conjoined sheets of ruled paper. [Russia], November 30, 1961. To his brother, Robert L. Oswald. Warren Commission Exhibit No. 308. Pictured on pages 849-850, Volume XVI, Warren Commission Hearings. Fine condition. Includes Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA. Ex-Dr. John K. Lattimer. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist. In full, spelling and grammar uncorrected, “Dear Robert; We sent you a package with a few little Christmas presents for every body. you have allready recivied the color books for Cathy [Robert’s five-year-old daughter]. The package may be a little late you may not get until about New Years. We sent the package only today. We still haven’t recived any word about our visa’s. Marina says that she can not wait until she gets to the U.S. and see’s little Robert Jr.? If you like, you can send me a football, (they only have round one’s here [soccer balls]) just deflate it & send it to me like a letter. Also you can pick up a few diagrams of Plays at any filling station and send them along. also, these Russians seem interested in learning how to play, so I thought maybe you could help me out and together we’ll show them a little bit of american sport. Our deal about the visas is not getting any better, and I think about New Years, I’ll fly into Moscow, and go to the Embassy about it. As time goes on, our complaints, and their inactivity, will bring things to a head one side or the other will break. We sent you a can of a kind of Russian candy called ‘KHAIIVA’ [halvah], its made from grain and sugar, so when you’ll open the package you’ll know its candy. I eat a lot of it, if you all like it, will send some more. We’ll send all this on about Dec. 1 so you should recive it about Christmas (I hope). Your Brother Lee” From the Warren Report: “The Oswalds were notified on December 25, 1961, that their requests for exit visas had been granted by Soviet authorities. Marina Oswald picked up her visa, valid until December 1, 1962, on January 11, 1962, 17 days after receiving notice that it was available. Oswald did not pick up his visa until May 22. The Soviets did not give the Oswalds any advance notice; the visas could have been picked up immediately had the Oswalds so desired. Because his exit visa had a 45-day expiration time after date of issuance, Lee Oswald delayed picking it up until he knew when he was leaving. He could not arrange a departure date until he received permission from the Department of State in May to return to the United States.” John K. Lattimer (1914-2007). The family of President John F. Kennedy chose Dr. Lattimer to be the first nongovernmental medical specialist to review evidence in Kennedy's assassination. On January 7, 1972, at the National Archives, Dr. Lattimer examined 65 X-rays, color transparencies, and black-and-white negatives taken during Kennedy's autopsy, concluding, according to “The New York Times,” that “they ‘eliminate any doubt completely’ about the validity of the Warren Commission's conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald fired all the shots that struck the President.” This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
