PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of Jullias Phillips (1923 - 2017), Marietta, Georgia. When WWII started, Jullias worked at the Charleston Navy Yard helping build ships to protect our country and the world. They moved to Charleston, one of America oldest city with many historical building and antiques. Start from here, Jullias love to collect porcelains and many other antiques, and many year later they came back to Marietta, Georgia.
Chinese Qing Dynasty period, Mille Fleur porcelain double gourd vase. Fine porcelain potted in a shape of double gourd resemblance, with two bulbous bellies conjoined together, bulbous lower section finishing into a slender bottleneck at the top, suspending a short cylindrical neck, with a straight opening lip, raised on slightly short splayed foot base and slighty concave. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the mille fleur design color. The Mille Fleur decoration, meaning the thousand flowers design first appears in the late Yongzheng period becoming extremely popular in the Qianlong and was carried on throughout the subsequent Jiaqing and DaoGuang periods, usually on a gilt ground. The dense millefleurs design features naturalistic blossoming peonies, chrysanthemums, hibiscus, morning glories, roses, lotus flowers, daisies, lilies and pinks amidst an abundance of foliage, the mouth rims with gilt bands, the bases and interiors often turquoise-enameled on older pieces. Elegantly presented upon a carved hardwood stand and fitted original hardwood box, with deep royal blue interior cushion The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
