PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.
Extraorginally, rare, Chinese Qing Dynasty period, Blue & red dragon reward vase. Finest porcelain potted in reward shape vase, thick and tall globular lower body, tapered gracefully toward straight cylindrical neck, and slight flaring mouth rim, raised on a short small round foot base with slight concave. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the blue and ruby red fine color, depicted of Several snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves, in a ruby red color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck, corresponding with fire, symbolizes good fortune and joy And Blue stands for healing, trust and long life. Shades of green/blue are used to decorate homes for longevity and harmony. The Lines of the drawings are clear, the light and dark shades are subtle. The colors are harmonious, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on base, a six under glazed blue seal script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
