PROVENANCE: From Private estate collections of David Frederick Boyd, of Marietta, Georgia (1935 - 2018). Served in the United States Army, thereafter, employed by a fortune 500 company and remained there for the rest of his working career. He is admired for Habitat for Humanity activist and a prominent antiques collector, mostly Chinese Antiques and European furniture at his large Victorian house in Georgia.
Chinese Ming Dynasty period, Wucai open face geometrical meiping jar. The porcelain shaped into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, with emerging slight flaring ring mouth rim, raised on round foot base, with slight concave. The exterior decorated by applying of wucai design color, a variety of five-colored pigments creates bold opaque hand-painting of big carp swims on the salubrious pond surrounded water plants on the scallop medallion. Covered with thrashing lishui waves and Chinese calligraphy medallion. Enclosed with repeating taotie mask, floral petals and geometric pattern. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
Mark on base, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, Made in The Years of Jiajing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
