Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Reversed Blue glazed fish plate. Potted in shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with a slightly flared lip and shallow draft. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in deep blue underglaze base color which contrast against the white fine color. The Exterior adorned with swimming carp interspersed with water plants. The Carp Similar sounding to the word "Business" in Chinese, the carp symbolizes a wish for benefit or advantage in business, and accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze and turning a deep blue-black.
