Bronze India , 18th century Dimensions: Height 20 cm by 10 cm Weight: 1.700 grams The man-lion is a fierce avatar of Vishnu, the torso and lower body usually in human shape and head of a lion, sometimes also claws instead of hands. He is seated on a lotus flower on a rectangular throne with inscriptions on the front and back, his legs are crossed at the ankles. Narasimha has four arms holding attributes linked to Vishnu. The body is adorned with jewellery and he is wearing a five-pointed tiara. The dhoti he is wearing has incisions of a delicate ornamental pattern. The base is hollow. He is a fierce avatar of the Hindu god.
