Bronze India , 17th century Dimensions: Height 10 cm by 6 cm Weight: 219 grams Bala Krishna means literally "Baby Krishna" and is a popular motive in Hindu art, either depicted crawling on hands and knees or dancing with a ball of butter in his hand, like here. He is standing one-legged on a round lotus base, a lotus flower bud is growing next to his left foot while the right foot is lifted in motion, balancing with his left hand to the side. The face is tilted upwards in playful joy, the hair done up in a bun fastened by a hairband. The chubby body is adorned with a waistband, anklets, armlets, necklaces and ear pendants.
