Bronze fire-gilt Tibet or Mongolia, 18th century Dimensions: Height 27 cm Weight: 920 grams Most probably stemming from Mongolia, this standing Buddha Maitreya on a square lotus base has the left hand raised in front of the chest with thumb and index finger touching, the left hand by his side showing the same mudra. The arms are exceptionally long. The Buddha of the Future is dressed in a long garment covered by a short one fastened around the waist with belts. A bow and beaded chains decorate the waist. The upper body is adorned with various jewellery. The face is almost square with large downcast eyes, high eyebrows and small smiling lips. Elongated earlobes frame the face and the hair is set apart by a hairline, done up in two buns with a decorative headpiece. The bottom is sealed.
