Bronze firegilt China or Tibet, Qian Long Period (1736 - 1796) Dimensions: Height 17 cm Weight: 1184 grams Four-armed Guanyin Bodhisattva seated in dhyanasana on a double reverse lotus throne with beaded rim. Dressed in flowy robes tightened around the waist with a scarf thrown over the shoulders and its two ends drooping over the front of the throne. Two hands are joined in front of the chest, anjali mudra, the other two are raised at the back holding a lotus flower and prayer beads. The face has a calm expression with downcast eyes, decorated with a five-pointed tiara enclosing the head of Amithaba Buddha. Guanyin is the embodiment of compassion.
