Uma das muito raras e importantes obras do célebre médico sevilhano quinhentista, a primeira em latim, traduzida por outra grande figura de quantas no seu tempo se dedicaram ao estudo da Botanica medicinal das índias : Charles de L' écluse, mais conhecido pelo nome latinizado de Carolus Clusio. Na base está o trabalho de Garcia da Orta, o mestre pioneiro. Cuidada edi??o do famoso impressor Plantin, composta em caracteres redondos e itálicos, decorada com duas letras capitais de desenho de fantasia abertas em madeira, como abertas em madeira s?o também as muitas gravuras de frutos, plantas e raízes e até um tatu que aparecem intercaladas no texto. Encaderna??o inteira de carneira fina relativamente recente, com ferros dourados na lombada e rodas a seco nas pastas de decora??o renascentista. Assinaturas coevas no frontispício de Mathias (?) Furtado de Mendon?a e Freire d' Andrade, anota??es antigas manuscritas na margem da pág. 40 e ténues manchas em algumas folhas, perfeitamente insignificantes atendendo à raridade da obra.
