Dimensions: Height: 2" Diameter: 7-1/4"Chinese porcelain bowls with a rounded body of the bowl is finely potted with a broad base and shallow rim. The rim left plain white underglaze, banded with double fine red lines ring on the upper and foot base rim. The immaculate porcelain body is covered with a characteristic silky glaze, with various striations throughout the finish. The Exterior covered in a clean white underglaze decorated with the red carp swim and leaping above cresting wavy Lishui water. In Chinese legend, carp were said to swim high upstream in the Yellow River to the Dragons Gate. Those few who managed to jump the gate were transformed into dragons. In Confucian China, this is used to represent students who passed the scholar's exam. It is used, in general, as a symbol of a great life achievement achieved through hard work and perseverance. A carp symbolizes a favorable wish as it sounds similar to Li favorable, benefit, advantage and Li means strength, power. As the fish lays many eggs it also conveys the wish for many children. It has long been associated with wishing success in the state examinations. Liyu Tiao Long men may you gain quick success. Wang Xiang is an example of filial piety, he was unable to buy carp to provide medicine for his father and his evil step-mother, so he sat and wept on a frozen river for so long that his tears melted a hole in the ice opened and two carp sprang out of it. The Interior with similar leaping red carps decorated and banded with double fine iron-red lines ring on the center and upper mouth rim. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman. The Under-base bears a reign mark, a vertical six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, Made In The Years of Guangxu Reign Period of The Great Qing Dynasty.
