Painted in the centre with the arms of John-Henry Mertins, son of Sir George Mertins, Sheriff of Essex in 1705 and Lord Mayor of London in 1725, impaling those of his wife Bridget Peck, eldest daughter of William Peck of Little Samford Hall, encircled by a wide band on the well, all within an unusual famille rose floral outer border along the rim, diameter 8.75" — 22.2 cm.
