Ivory. Coiled monster fish with a horn on its forehead, its large eyes inlaid in black horn, its scales and the typical kind of eyebrows, dark stained. W.4cm. Signed: Gyokuseki on oval reserve, cf. MCI, depicting a similar piece by the same artist on p. 103, which is estimated around 1830-50 and just as 'delightful' as the one at hand. Condition A.
